The Legacy Birth Experience

One relationship. Four connected stages. A legacy that begins before birth.

The Legacy Birth Experience is comprehensive midwifery care designed to carry your family through pregnancy, planned home birth, postpartum, and the newborn period within one continuous relationship. Along the way, there is space for education, questions, informed choices, preparation, and care that recognizes your family's individual story.

My Approach to Care

The way I practice midwifery has been shaped by traditional knowledge, formal education, clinical experience, motherhood, and the families who have trusted me with their care.

Relationship Before Routine

Good care begins with knowing the person in front of me.

Pregnancy isn't a checklist, and families aren't interchangeable. I want to know what matters to you, what you're afraid of, what you're excited about, what you've experienced before, and what you need from me to feel supported.

That relationship matters clinically, too. The better I know you, the better I can recognize when something feels different, have honest conversations with you, and provide care that reflects you rather than simply following a routine.

Informed Choice, Not Permission

I don't believe my role as your midwife is to make decisions for you.

My responsibility is to give you understandable information, discuss benefits and risks, answer your questions, share my professional perspective, and make sure you have what you need to make informed decisions about your body, your baby, and your care.

Sometimes we may not make the same choice. That doesn't erase your autonomy or my responsibility to care for you honestly and respectfully.

You don't need my permission to have authority over your own body.

Evidence and Wisdom Can Sit at the Same Table

My approach to midwifery wasn't formed through one pathway.

I learned by sitting at the feet of elders and hearing the birth knowledge carried through generations. I have also learned through formal midwifery education, apprenticeship, clinical experience, continued study, and the families I've had the privilege of serving.

I don't believe respecting traditional knowledge requires rejecting modern evidence. And I don't believe evidence-based care requires dismissing generations of wisdom.

There is room for both, with discernment.

Respect for Physiologic Birth

I believe deeply in the body's capacity for physiologic birth.

That doesn't mean ignoring risk, romanticizing birth, or pretending intervention is never necessary. It means giving normal physiology room to work while paying attention, assessing carefully, and recognizing when something has moved outside of normal.

My goal isn't birth at home at all costs.

My goal is thoughtful care that respects physiology without losing sight of safety.

Whole-Family Care

A baby isn't born into a vacuum. A family is changing, too.

Partners are becoming parents. Children may be becoming siblings. Families are learning new rhythms, navigating new responsibilities, and figuring out what this new chapter means for them.

That's why I don't see my work as caring only for a pregnant body. I care about the family surrounding that pregnancy, too.

Cultural Respect

You should not have to leave important pieces of yourself at the door to receive respectful maternity care.

Culture, family traditions, beliefs, food, relationships, previous experiences with healthcare, and the way you understand pregnancy and birth can all shape what care means to you.

I want there to be room for those things.

Culturally respectful care doesn't mean making assumptions about you because of your background. It means being willing to listen, ask, learn, and recognize that good care doesn't have to look identical for every family.

Legacy Through Birth

Birth is a moment, but its impact can reach far beyond that moment.

People remember how they were spoken to. They remember whether they felt heard. They remember whether decisions were made with them or around them. Those experiences become part of the stories families tell about how their children entered the world.

That's one reason I named this practice Greenwood.

I'm not only interested in helping families get through pregnancy and birth. I want the care surrounding those experiences to contribute something good to the story they carry forward.

Common Questions

Questions families often ask

If you have a question not answered here, bring it to your consultation — there are no silly questions when it comes to your family's care.

Home birth is not one-size-fits-all. During your consultation, we'll talk through your health history, previous pregnancies and births, current pregnancy, hopes, questions, and concerns. This gives us an opportunity to discuss whether Greenwood and planned home birth may be an appropriate fit for your family.

Your consultation is a relaxed, unrushed conversation about your family, your pregnancy, what you're looking for in your care, and how Greenwood practices. You'll have an opportunity to ask questions, learn more about the Legacy Birth Experience, and decide whether the relationship feels like the right fit.

Birth can unfold in unexpected ways. Part of planning for home birth includes talking openly about situations that may call for consultation, additional evaluation, or transfer of care. We'll discuss Greenwood's approach to these possibilities during your consultation so you can understand how changing circumstances are handled before choosing care.

Your history deserves an individual conversation rather than a blanket answer. If you've had a previous cesarean, pregnancy complication, or another circumstance you're wondering about, bring it to your consultation. We'll discuss your history, available options, and whether Greenwood may be an appropriate fit.

Comprehensive Greenwood midwifery care is $5,000. A $750 non-refundable retainer reserves your place in care. Flexible payment planning is available, and the investment calculator above can help you see a personalized payment schedule based on your estimated due date.

Midwifery care is personal, and many questions about services, eligibility, testing, payment, and care planning depend on your individual circumstances. Your consultation gives us time to talk through those details, answer your questions, and make sure you understand what care with Greenwood would look like for your family.
